Relaxing through the distances.
It was a pretty epic morning in the pool. The pool wasn’t crowded. There wasn’t some crabby swimmer guy upset that I was about to jump into his lane. There weather was good. I had my coffee on.
I was a competitive swimmer in elementary and high school; one of the best breaststrokers in our district. I’m not even going to comment on what you’re thinking. Anyway, swimming now is really different than when I swam competitively. Not that this isn’t competitive on some level. But my goal now isn’t to be the best in the county, or to go crazy fast for 100 yards. My goal is to glide through the water at the most relaxed efficient pace I can for 1 mile. My goal is to get into a similar groove to the one I get into when I run seven relaxed miles. The legs move, the mind wanders. The further I swim the more relaxed I become. I’m not there yet, but I’ve seen glimpses of it.
